Lebanese Gender Experts Discuss Women's Participation in Politics

June 17, 2022

In this interview, MEP Director Merissa Khurma speaks with gender experts Carmen Geha and Lynn Mounzer to highlight the barriers facing women’s political representation in Lebanon. 118 women ran for office in last month’s parliamentary elections, a 37 percent increase since the country’s last parliamentary elections. However, only 8 women won seats in Parliament – a very modest 2 seat increase since the last elections. Geha and Mounzer discuss the structural challenges women candidates face, including financial, cultural, and even familial factors.
