Overview

Women and girls in Afghanistan have long struggled to maintain access to education. This memoir, Defiant Dreams: The Journey of an Afghan Girl Who Risked Everything for Education, tells the story of Sola Mahfouz who faced political, cultural, and familial obstacles to educate herself for a more prosperous future.

Join us for a conversation with co-authors Sola Mahfouz and Malaina Kapoor about the status of girls under Taliban rule today in Afghanistan, and the global fight for women’s access to quality education. This event is co-hosted with the Wilson Center's Asia Program as part of the Hindsight Up Front Afghanistan initiative.
