Human Rights Activist Selim Mawad Turns to Street Art to Provoke Dialogue and Change

June 23, 2022

The Wilson Center’s Middle East Program introduces a new interview series titled Art in MENA: A Medium for Activism, which aims to explore the ways art is being used as a form of civic engagement and political expression in the Middle East and North Africa region.

MEP’s Brooke Sherman interviewed Beirut-based activist Selim Mawad about the decision to incorporate street art in his advocacy work. Selim draws on more than 20 years of experience in human rights activism and peacebuilding to provoke public debate about the role of both state and citizen in forging a more equitable society.
