Wilson Center and Congressional Leaders Receive Distinguished Awards from President of Colombia

WASHINGTON— Ambassador Mark A. Green, President and CEO of the Wilson Center, led a delegation of National Cabinet members and Global Advisory Council members to Colombia to examine opportunities to strengthen the bilateral relationship between both countries. The delegation also included Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO) and Colombia’s Ambassador to the United States Juan Carlos Pinzon.

During the visit, Colombian President Ivan Duque conferred the “200 Years of Diplomatic Relations between Colombia and the United States of America” honor to: Wilson Center President and CEO, Ambassador Mark A. Green, Global Advisory Council Member Sadek Wahba and Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO). Ambassador Green and Senator Blunt were awarded the rank of Grand Cross and Mr. Wahba received the rank of Commendator.

“I would like to humbly thank President Duque for this special honor and for also recognizing the strong support of Senator Blunt and Global Advisory Council member Sadek Wahba to improving the livelihoods of Colombians. I am extremely proud to be a part of the rich history between Colombia and the U.S. and will continue to support efforts to improve our bilateral relationship, said Ambassador Green. “The relationship between our two countries has never been more important. The Wilson Center is honored to receive this recognition from President Duque; it is a testament to the solid framework of two centuries of diplomatic ties and our continued path forward.”

“As we mark the 200th anniversary of the U.S.-Colombia relationship this year, we recognize the critical importance of the economic, diplomatic, and security ties between our nations. Colombia is one of our closest allies, and I’ve been proud to support policies to ensure a strong and enduring partnership, said Senator Roy Blunt. I appreciated the opportunity to visit Colombia with the Wilson Center, and I am very honored to receive this award from President Duque. I look forward to seeing the U.S.-Colombia relationship become even closer and stronger over the next 200 years.”

The recent visit to Colombia highlights the important work being conducted by the Wilson Center. The Center’s Global Advisory Council and National Cabinet, are comprised of industry and thought leaders who are dedicated to nonpartisan and objective dialogue. They serve as a sounding board to the institution, who through their participation bring “Wilson to the world, and the world to Wilson.” In addition, the Center’s Latin American Program provides nonpartisan expertise to a broad community of decision makers in the United States and Latin America on critical policy issues facing the Hemisphere.
